Sunday Services: 10:30 AM, IN-PERSON and ONLINE
In addition to our regular in-person worship in our Sanctuary, First UU offers ONLINE SUNDAY MORNING WORSHIP! To join us for worship “live” using Zoom (with your phone or computer), just use this link: bit.ly/UUSundays !
“Zooming” in to a service is easy. It’s a great way to visit if you’re new. It also allows everyone “Zooming in” to see both new and familiar faces. We can even talk, smile, wave, and interact with each other before and after the service — it’s the next best thing to in-person Coffee Hour.
The best place to find news, updates, and worship service Zoom links is our Facebook page. Please “Follow” us so you’ll always be informed. Our sermon topic is previewed each week with our “Sunday Sneak Peek,” also posted on our Facebook page. We hope you’ll join us!
Wondering what a UU “service” is like? It’s welcoming, renewing, inspiring…and much like the services you’ve probably attended at other churches.
Each one-hour worship service usually incorporates a welcome, songs, readings, a sharing of personal Joys and Sorrows, quiet time for contemplation, and a sermon by our minister (or by a chosen lay person).
Children and Youth are invited to join us in the sanctuary for the opening of our worship service and a Story for All Ages. The entire congregation then exchanges greetings (many people shake hands or say, “Peace be with you”). The children are encouraged to “pass the peace” with at least ten adults as they leave together for their age-appropriate Religious Exploration classes. First UU also provides free Nursery care for younger children during our Sunday morning services.
Our minister leads worship most Sundays from mid-August through the end of June. Summer worship services are led by our Lay Worship Associates. First Unitarian Universalist congregants thrive on ritual, and we celebrate special days on Sunday mornings regularly throughout the year. Special services include the Water Ingathering (September), Day of Remembrance (October), Family Bread Communion (November), Winter Solstice (December), Passover Seder (Spring), and Flower Communion (May).
As part of the Soul Matters spiritual curriculum followed by our church, we explore a new spiritual “theme” each month. This theme is carried through our Sunday worship services as well as in the Soul Matters Sharing Circles, our adult small groups which meet individually. Our past Soul Matters themes have included Intention, Mystery, and Possibility.
