The Five Pillars of Islam
The Five Pillars of Islam had guest lecturer, Dr. Harold Morales, IUP World Religions professor, was guest lecturer on Sunday, February 16. Dr. Morales’ lecture is part of this year’s First UU Religious Education (RE) curriculum: Exploring the Religions of the World. Dr. Morales discussed the Five Pillars of Islam representing the duties of a Muslim which provide a spiritual foundation and function. The information shared by Dr. Morales gave the historical background and ethical foundation for the Pillars as well as what each represents for Muslims. To introduce The Five Pillars of Islam to the congregation and children during the First UU Story for All Ages, “Ramadan” by Terri Sievert was read. Shown reading and sharing with some RE children are Nonna Randal, First UU Board of Trustees president; and Dr. Morales.
