Flower Ceremony & New Member
On Sunday, May 19th, the Flower Communion was celebrated with Rev. Joan M. Sabatino and Nonna Randal, Worship Associate, leading the service. Flower Communion is an annual Unitarian tradition first created by Czech minister Rev. Norbert Chapek in 1923. Our Sunday school children collected the flowers members brought to church before the service and created bouquets representing all the talents and love we bring to this church community. The flowers bouquets represent what we create together. These flowers were carried by the children to an altar placed in front of the sanctuary’s pulpit. At the end of the service, after hearing the story of Norbert Chapek and a homily by Rev. Joan, each person at the service was asked to come forward and choose a different flower to take home as a reminder of the beloved community created together at First UU. This service also include a New Member Welcome Ceremony for Sarah Fritz, Beth Ann Frederick, Jim Watta, Laura Thomas and Gabby Kennedy. Additional photos are available in the website Gallery.
